Music for Pure Choir

SCORE RENTAL / PURCHASE

Fjoloy was my first choral work. At the time, I was experimenting with alternate notational systems and absorbing a lot of music by Earle Brown and Krzysztof Penderecki. Having spent most of my life as an improvisor, I was drawn to their systems of aleatory, and this piece was my attempt at creating something with a new notational language. It was recorded live at Issue Project Room by Andrew Munsey and it features performances by the NYU Singers and the Women’s Choir of NYU. The other, more inanimate member of this project is the space itself, which is basically a giant marble bank vault with incredible acoustics.
